Remember trad italian roofs have much bigger overhangs on the eaves the bit which overhangs the long sides of a pitched roof and also on the verges which overhang the gables.
Why do roofs have rocks on them.
Personally i dislike them.
I assume you re not talking about rocks meaning boulders but rather the layer of small stones you see not just on gas stations but on many flat roofs.
Have you ever wondered why contractors install gravel on flat roofs.
It s also a bit of an aesthetic nicety on more modern roofs just for the crack as it were.
Roofing ballast is usually the little pebbles you see on a flat ish roof.
Admittedly one that i have not seen but i haven t been in the desert since i was a kid.
Ideally the stones are river gravel which has smooth edges and won t cut.

To weigh down or secure the roofing material as is the case with single ply flat roofs.
You can still find houses here in the city with rock roofs.
